Some neglected New Yorkers start to think independently,
and that's good for Vermont!

A group of men were meeting in Dorset on this day in 1776. It was the third convention regarding the "grants," land granted by New Hampshire and New York.

The convention was attended by both anti-New Yorkers and New Yorkers who were reluctantly leaving their home jurisdiction. The New Yorkers felt neglected by New York, and were thinking more seriously about helping to create an independent state.

This convention declared all New York laws void in the grants.

The New York Constitutional Convention the next April further angered most grant settlers, solidifying their desire for independence.
