Here's a Vermont woman who's really in the money!
This is a freshly minted story about Stella Hackel.

The United States Senate was confirming Stella Bloomberg Hackel on this day in 1977.

Hackel, a Vermonter, was a lawyer from Rutland, had been City Grand Juror of Rutland, Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Employment Security, Chairman of the Employment Security Board, President of the Interstate Conference of Employment Security Agencies, and Vermont State Treasurer.

She was the first woman to run for Vermont Governor, as a Democrat in 1976.

This was her confirmation day as Director of the U.S. Mint. Nominated by President Carter, Hackel was the fourth woman ever to hold this position.
