Poultney
residents and the rest of Vermont were given a unique portal into
times gone by on this day in 2006. It was on this day that the Poultney
Historical Society began displaying glass plate negatives they had
recently discovered.
The
plates captured a comprehensive picture of Vermont life between
1890 and 1910. In fact, there were over 1,000 pictures, showing
people in their homes, at work, in the fields and simply living
their lives.
Poultney's
display, called "Poultney Under Glass: Photographs of Rural
Life, 1890-1910," is one of the many treasures found at local
historical societies throughout Vermont.
