A thief in Winooski sets their sights on...women’s underwear.

A Winooski woman opened an old stove in her garage on this day in 1955. Imagine the look on her face when she found a pair of polka-dotted women's underwear, known as "hortie pajamas." The underwear bandit had struck again.

It was the third time within a few weeks that women's underwear had been reported either stolen or found. The next day a woman claimed the read and white polka dot shorties, explaining they had been stolen from her clothes line two months ago.

The police chief said he didn't know if he was on the lookout for a male "Clothesline Cassanova," or a woman trying to find the right size.
