Charles
Shattuck Hill was born in Fairfield on this day in 1868. By the
age of 20 he would have his degree in civil engineering.
Hill
became part of the editorial staff of Engineering News in New York,
and then became editor of Engineering and Contracting. He published
numerous books, with an emphasis on concrete related projects and
working with concrete.
Best
known is Hill's, The Chicago Main Drainage Channel.
His other works include Reinforced Concrete, Concrete
Construction, Concrete Inspection and Winter Construction
Methods, and Hydraulic Fill at the Miami Conservancy District
Dams in Ohio.
