An ice jam on the Connecticut River causes problems in town.
It's springtime in South Lunenburg...

South Lunenburg fell victim to the power of mother nature and the changing seasons on this day in 1936. Temperatures, weather, and physics combined to form an ice jam on the Connecticut River.

The Connecticut overflowed its banks, flooding Town Highway 1, also known as the "river road." The flood was more of an inconvenience than anything else, isolating some homes, creating dangerous driving conditions, and spreading debris over a large area.

The people of South Lunenburg took it all in stride, waiting for the crisis to pass, and cleaning up the mess once the water levels returned to normal.
