Groton grants permission to re-use a lumberjack boardinghouse.
It's summer on Ricker Pond.

The town of Groton was issuing a license on this day in 1860. McLane Marshall had applied for and was granted permission to open a summer resort on Rickers Pond. The resort would become known as the Lake House.

McLane had plans to convert a building previously used as a boardinghouse for lumberjacks. The structure had a commanding view of Rickers pond, and Marshall made the most of that view by constructing a double piazza on the front side of the two-story building.

The Lake House operated as a summer and recreational resort until it was converted into a private residence in 1894.
