He's a public servant from Rutland.

Charles Kilborn Williams was born on this day in 1782. Williams moved to Rutland with his father at eight years old and resided there for the rest of his life.

Williams became a well-respected lawyer who repeatedly represented Rutland in legal matters. Without much of a race, Williams was elected state's attorney of Rutland County in 1815 by nearly every political party. This led to his election as judge for the Vermont Supreme Court, but he declined re-election in 1849.

Williams was elected governor in 1850. He was recognized by both Williams and Middlebury College for his public dedication and hard work.
